Overview
Donations to your organization will be added within Finance. The ability to add gifts can be done in various ways. It can be done from the global view of all gifts, under Finance by clicking Add Gift, or directly from a record that has been enabled for Finance.
Adding a Gift from the Global View
To add a gift from the global view you will navigate to View Gifts under Finance.
From the Global View you will see all donations that have been added and have the ability to add additional gifts by clicking Add Gift.
You can also add a gift by clicking Add Gift under Finance.
You can also add a gift directly from a record that is enabled for Finance. On the record page, you have the ability to add the gift by clicking Add Gift. If you are on a record that does not have this option, it means that the record type you are viewing is not able to be a Legal or Credit donor.
When adding a gift from the record view, by default the record you are navigating from will be added as the Legal Credit Donor.
Adding a Gift
Within HighTide, the Legal Credit Donor, also known as Hard Credit Donor, is the legal record of making the gift in accordance with IRS regulations. Credit Donor, also known as Soft Credit Donor, is the credit assigned to a record or records for the purpose of donor recognition. A Gift can also have any other record added to a donation for tracking purposes within Other Connections. To add a gift you will simply follow the form, adding your Legal Credit Donor, any Credit Donors, as well as Other Connections. After selecting your donors and connections you will enter the relevant gift information. Donation Date, by default it will be the current date and you will have the ability to edit the date if needed. Select the Payment Method of the gift, payment methods include ACH, Cash, Check, Credit Card, Other, or Wire Transfer. We have a Reference Number field as well, this will allow you to add information that might be important to reference the giving information, such as the last 4 digits of a credit card number. Next, you can categorize this gift, your organization can control how you want to categorize your gifts. Examples of categories include Gift, Pledge Payment, Matching Gift, etc, but you are not limited to your options and can add additional options as needed. It is important to note, that removing a category is not possible due to data being attached to donations. In the event you want a category removed, you will need to contact support so we can confirm the number of records that would be affected if removed. You will then enter the Amount, the Tax Deductible Amount is calculated based on the Amount and if a Donor Benefits have been added.
Adding a Donor Benefit
Within the HighTide platform, you have the ability to add Donor Benefits easily on the giving form. After clicking Add Donor Benefit a dropdown of benefits will display, you can then select from existing benefits or Add New Benefit.
If you choose to add a new benefit, a side drawer will appear where you can Name the benefit, add a Description, the Value of the benefit and then a Benefit Code. All fields are required. Similar to Categories, Donor Benefits cannot be deleted from the table due to the benefit being attached to a gift.
After adding the Donor Benefit the amount from the benefit will subtract from the Amount to calculate the Tax Deductible Amount.
